Electric vehicle in India is going to be a big thing. For initial buyers, it would be costly, but reducing fuel costs will bring down the total cost of ownership over time, and the availability of electricity at home or work would make charging easier than ever before. As the government has set the target of 100% electric car by 2030, manufacturing companies are coming up with their best electric cars for the Indian Market.
1. Tata Tigor EV
Tata Motors showcased the Tigor EV back in the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, their first fully electric vehicle which is expected to hit showrooms later this year(2022 It's based on Tata Tigor hatchback). According to reports, the Tigor EV would be powered by a 33.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and has claimed mileage of 180 kilometers on a full charge.
2. Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars
Maruti Suzuki is also gearing up for Electric cars, they have already showcased the Ignis Diesel-electric concept car in Auto Expo 2016 and said that it will hit the road by 2020. They are also showcasing NEV (New Electric Vehicle) Concept Car in 22nd Auto Expo 2022 which is expected to go into production soon and could be priced at around Rs 5 lakhs. The all-new electric sawtooth concept was developed jointly with Denso Corp., Japan's largest automotive supplier.
3. Hyundai IONIQ Electric
Hyundai has also planned to bring two new electric cars to India by 2022. The first one would be IONIQ Electric which is expected to go on sale by 2018 and the second one would be Hyundai Kona Electric SUV which might hit showrooms by early 2019.
4. Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV
Maruti Suzuki has also showcased their concept of an all-electric version of their popular hatchback, the Wagon R at Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi. This car will have a top speed of 80km/hr with a range of up to 120kms on a full charge. And It's expected to go on sale by early 2022.
5. Tata Tiago EV
Tata Motors is planning to introduce their newly developed Electric car, Tata Tiago EV by the end of 2022. This will be a basic model and is expected to get a range of 200 km on a single charge which would keep it in competition with Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe
6. Ford
To Introduce Electric Cars In India By 2022 Ford Motor Company is planning to introduce fully electric cars in India after 2022 that will compete with Tesla Motors' Model 3 and Chevy's Bolt. The Indian subsidiary confirmed that the company is working on an all-electric powertrain to make its global product line more sustainable. However, there are no specific details available about when this technology might debut in the country or what kind of vehicles it could feature in.
7. Volkswagen
VOW3 FE And I.D. BUZZ Concept VW announced back in 2016 that they will introduce 10 electric cars by 2022, most likely one of these could be the VW I.D. BUZZ is a fully-electric Microbus using the MEB platform based on a new modular electric drive kit (MEB) from Volkswagen Group.
8. Jaguar I-PACE Concept
Jaguar's all-new electric car, the production version of the I-PACE Concept was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva motor show and it will go into production by 2022 and would hit the Indian market after that, though their official website says "The future is Electric" but they haven't given any specific time frame as for now for launch In India
9. Nissan Leaf
According to reports, Nissan is planning to launch their electric hatchback, Nissan Leaf in 2022 which is expected to be priced at Rs 250000 (US$ 3800). The Nissan Leaf was launched back in 2010 and is also available in India through Exports.
10. Mercedes Benz SLS AMG
Coupe Electric Drive Although this one isn't technically in production, Mercedes has made a very small number of SLS AMG coupe electric drives and it's currently in use in US and UK for test purposes only. This hypercar can go from 0-100km/hr under 4 sec.
11. Audi E-Tron
Quattro Concept According to Auto Express, the new all-electric SUV will be called the Audi e-Tron Quattro and preview Audi's design direction as it will become the first EV from the range to make use of the firm's modular electrification platform. Thee-Tron Quattro is also expected to compete with Tesla's next SUV, believed to be called the Model Y. It will offer three electric motors - one at the front and two at the rear - and all-wheel drive, which should give it a 0-62mph time of around 4.5sec and a 310-mile range.
